Decisions Shape Your Destiny by Tony Robbins

Welcome to the first Quoted Series episode of the Create Your Destiny Podcast!

Now how this works is for each episode I am going to share with you a favorite quote of mine, and then we’re going to dissect it a little bit. We’ll talk about the meaning behind it and how we can actually apply it to our own lives.

As a bonus I’ve created a Create Your Destiny WORKBOOK for you! The workbook will walk you through a dreaming session where  you’ll outline what your dream life is, and then go deeper in each area to help uncover what’s holding you back and how you can work past that so you can start creating your Destiny now.

Now I am slightly freaking out because I couldn’t have found a more perfect quote to start this series off with! I almost feel like this quote encapsulates all of what I want this podcast to be about – so yea, its pretty perfect.

The quote is by one of my favorites by Tony Robbins and he says:

“It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped”.

The big point here we get to DECIDE our destiny.

It’s not predetermined – we have the power and the ability to choose our future.

Each little or big decision we make everyday is shaping our destiny and who we will become.

So ask yourself now, who do you want to become?

Let’s break this down into different areas of our lives.

This is for those of you who are not business owners and have a job working for someone else.

I’ve seen this many times over SO many years – where someone hates their job, but they’re not really doing anything about it. Whether it’s the job itself, their cowokers, or their boss – they are really unhappy. They complain about it – a lot. They dread going to work, but what do they really do about it… nothing. They might apply for a job here or there, but get discouraged when 1 of those doesn’t happen so they go back into the negative cycle.

Does this sound like you? If so, remember you are DECIDING to stay in this job. At this point it’s not the jobs fault, it’s not other people’s fault, it’s not your bosses fault that you don’t like your job. It’s your decision to stay there or to leave.

This reminds me of one of my brothers. He was dying to get out of this job, and he really was working hard at finding a new one. He did go through moments where he felt like it would never happen, but he kept on and kept applying and interviewing. Eventually it did – and he’s so happy where he’s at now – learning so much and being surrounded by the right environment for HIM.

So who do you want to be?

The person who keep kind of trying here or there but ultimately stays put and is at the same shitty job 5 years later still?

Or do you want to be the type of person who never stops seeking other opportunities, because they trust eventually something will pan out.

DECIDE what future you want, and take the steps to get there.

Share my story and how I would never be where I am today if I didn’t decide I was going for it and left what wasn’t working behind.

The next example is for my fellow business owners out there!

I know running our own business is an emotional rollercoaster. Anyone will tell you that unfortunately it never ends either. But we cannot let external forces lead the way for our business, we need to decide how we want it to grow and how you want to manage each day.

We are making decisions constantly.

What to offer. How much to charge. Who to work with. How much to take on. Where to go next.

But if we aren’t being intentional about these decisions and remembering that bigger vision of what we really want, we may end up agreeing to things we don’t want to do or selling ourselves short.

At some point – you will need to say NO to things that aren’t aligned with your bigger goals. You will need to stand by your pricing, believe in your value, and not allow yourself to be price shopped.

Everytime we decide to say YES to something that isn’t right for us, we’re taking away that time from something else that could be moving us more in the direction we want.

I definitely struggle with this at times – we want to help others out and give. But at some point we need to stand up for that bigger picture – we need to decide to make changes according to that destiny we want.

Now let’s shift from the work talk and go into the personal stuff. It’s time to chat about our health.

This can be a huge struggle for all of us.

We love to find excuses in this area for why we aren’t eating better, being more active, and just overall healthier.

I don’t have time.
I can’t afford it.
I don’t know what to do.
It’s too hard.

But it all boils down to the decisions we make every single day.

Now I am in NO way sitting her preaching like I’ve got it all figured out. I said ALL of these things and I still find myself struggling here. I promise you I am with you okay. But I have seen what a difference it can make when you decide to commit to something and stick with it.

For years I would dabble with randomly going to a gym, or a class here and there – but nothing stuck, and I was never happy with my body. I started doing crossfit a little over a  year ago. Not because I wanted to really, I’d never EVER lifted weights like that. I had no idea what I was doing or what anything was called. But I knew myself enough to know I needed guidance, I needed structure, and I needed someone else to push me when I wouldn’t push myself. I remember in my consult meeting before I got started my coach asked me “when was the last time you were happy with your body”. Do you know what I said? Never. Isn’t that ridiculous? Looking back it’s so sad to me. Either I was stick thin growing up and hated that – or when the curved came in I was self conscious about my thicker arms/legs and my jiggly tummy haha.

Now it’s just over a year later I’ve had to get rid of a big stack of clothes that no longer fit. I feel stronger, more confident. I can throw on shorts and for once not be worried about how I look.

I am not saying Crossfit is your answer. I’m just saying find SOMETHING that works for you and your life, and decide to commit to it every week. Nothing about your health, your body, energy levels or just how you feel everyday will change unless YOU decide to change and do something differently.

Imagine who you want to be in the future – what does you dream destiny look like when it comes to your health and fitness?

Do you know how you’re going to get there? By making those small decisions each day to make the time, to put in the effort, to find a routine, to fit it into your budget.

Alright guys now the last area we’re going to look at when it comes to making decisions to shape our destiny is relationships.

If you’re in a relationship that is not healthy – stop wasting your time.

That future happy self of yours – the one who has found the love of their life with someone who treats you how you SHOULD be treated – who isn’t trying to change you or hold you back or put you down. THAT person walked away from all the relationships that weren’t right. That future person who you want to be, said enough is enough and closed one chapter to find a better one.

Decide this isn’t for you and actually follow through with it. I know this can be so hard – you want to fall back into unhealthy habits because we’re emotionally tied, but that’s not getting you what you want in the end. It will continue to hurt you and hold you back until you make the decision to make room in your life for the RIGHT person. And there is no room for that person when your only half free.

For those of you who are struggling in your relationship but WANT it to work – what decisions are you making to improve the situation? Oftentimes we want to blame the other person – “if only they did this or if only they didn’t do this” – but we fail to look inward at how WE are acting.

We start creating this negative story about the other person in our head and so instead of being open and warm we then close ourselves off and aren’t trying. THEN we wonder why the other person isn’t responding positively to us. Can you see how this whole thing can turn into a terrible cycle?

Decide you want this relationship. And then follow that decision up with the right kind of actions to get you there. Because pointing fingers or staying stagnant will get you no closer to that happy loving future you want.

Would it be awesome to look back in a few years and say THANK GOD I turned things around?

Thank God I quit that job.

Thank God I stayed true to my business’s vision instead of trying to please everyone.

Thank God I started taking baby steps with my health so I can be more confident, have more energy and just feel better overall.

Thank God I let go of the bad relationship that was tearing me down instead of building me up, so I can make room for the right person to come along.

Thank God I put my ego aside and actually worked on saving my relationship.

Thank God I make decisions each and every day to become the person I am now.

Don’t you want that to be you?

“It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped”.
